Bloomfield, CT
–
As of today, Foodshare has received enough turkeys to provide Thanksgiving dinner to 2,718 Greater Hartford families. But that still leaves 12,616 individuals still in need of help this holiday season.
If you happened to be on Asylum Street in downtown Hartford this morning you may have noticed the crowds gathering around CityPlace. Turkey Tuesday sponsored by Bank of America returned for its 18th year, with support from UnitedHealthcare, Optum Technologies, UnitedHealth Group, Brad Davis and Dan Lovallo. WDRC’s Talk of Connecticut was broadcasting live from the lobby, attracting generous donations of turkeys and monetary donations in support of Foodshare’s Turkey and Thirty Campaign.
“Turkey Tuesday sponsored by Bank of America was a rousing success. We exceeded last year’s totals. Not only did we raise $30,000, but we received 700 turkeys that will go towards our ultimate goal of 15,334. It’s still going to take more hard work and generosity over the next few days, but I am hopeful that we will get there by Tuesday, “said Jason Jakubowski, president & CEO, Foodshare.

About Foodshare
Foodshare is leading an informed, coordinated response to hunger in our community. Foodshare is the Feeding America food bank serving Connecticut’s Hartford and Tolland Counties, where 127,000 people struggle with hunger. In partnership with the food industry, donors, community leaders and volunteers, Foodshare works to maximize access to nutritious food and other resources that support food security. Last year, Foodshare distributed 11.5 million meals worth of food to a network of 300 local partner programs including food pantries, shelters, and community kitchens. And, because hunger is bigger than food, Foodshare collaborates with anti-hunger organizations, policy makers, and the broader community to build effective solutions to end hunger.
