In September food banks across America raise awareness and encourage the community to take action against hunger. This year, Foodshare is offering a variety of resources to help people get involved in the anti-hunger cause throughout the month.
How can I fight hunger in my town?
You can make wishes come true for the pantries, shelters and meal programs in Hartford and Tolland counties by donating an item from our Partner Program Wish List. Over 100 items have been requested that can truly make a difference in the ways these important organizations serve their communities.
You also won’t want to miss our 30 Ways in 30 Days Calendar, which is full of anti-hunger events and volunteer opportunities that you can get involved in throughout Hunger Action Month. Be sure to go the extra mile on Thursday, September 13th, which is Hunger Action Day! Foodshare’s President and CEO Jason Jakubowski and Foodshare staff will be out in the communities that we serve volunteering at our partner programs. Keep up with us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and follow our hashtag: #FoodshareCT.
About Foodshare
Foodshare is leading an informed, coordinated response to hunger in our community. Foodshare is the Feeding America food bank serving Connecticut’s Hartford and Tolland counties, where 121,000 people struggle with hunger. In partnership with the food industry, donors, community leaders and volunteers, Foodshare works to maximize access to nutritious food and other resources that support food security. Last year, Foodshare distributed nearly 12 million meals worth of food to a network of 300 local food pantries, meal programs, and Mobile Foodshare sites. And, because hunger is bigger than food, Foodshare collaborates with antihunger organizations, policy makers, and the broader community to build effective solutions to end hunger.
Foodshare is changing what it means to be a food bank.
