Foodshare is officially announcing that this holiday season 15,621 families in Greater Hartford are in need of a turkey. Foodshare distributes turkeys through our partner program network, which includes local food pantries and meals programs. Each turkey in the goal represents a request from someone who has been identified by a Foodshare partner program.

On top of the turkey goal, this year Foodshare is announcing a monetary goal of $468,630. As part of the Turkey and Thirty campaign, the request to community supporters this season is to donate thirty dollars along with a turkey. This money will support Foodshare’s efforts to fight hunger throughout the year, because hunger is a year-round issue.
“These are large numbers, but I have seen firsthand the generosity of the Greater Hartford community. I know with their help we will ensure that all 15,621 of the local families that requested a turkey will have a Happy Thanksgiving, and the funds will help to support our work throughout the year.” said Jason Jakubowski, president & CEO of Foodshare.
Foodshare will be accepting donations all month long with the first community drive at Hartford Seminary in Hartford on Monday, Nov. 12. To guarantee that turkeys reach the table by Thanksgiving, please drop off your donation by Nov. 20 to Foodshare or at one of our community donation sites.
