Foodshare Receives $500,000 Gift from the Dalio Philanthropies

Bloomfield, CT

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Foodshare has received a very generous donation from Barbara and Ray Dalio and Dalio Philanthropies to help aid in the purchase and distribution of food during this crisis.

“Foodshare is doing amazing work on the ground to make sure Connecticut families in need have food during this crisis,” said Barbara Dalio. “We hope others join in support of this important cause.”

Foodshare serves more than 118,000 people in Hartford and Tolland counties who are food insecure, distributing more than 11 Million meals each year through a network of 280 partner food pantries, meal programs and their Mobile Foodshare program. Mobile Foodshare is an outdoor pantry-on-wheels that delivers produce, dairy, meat and other food items to communities throughout more than 60 partner sites, including community and senior centers, public housing complexes, houses of worship and more, in Greater Hartford.

“I can’t thank Barbara and Ray enough for this amazing gift,” said Foodshare President & CEO Jason Jakubowski. “Their generosity – particularly during this time of unprecedented need – is what will keep us going over the next several weeks as we do our best to provide for our community.”

At the present time, Foodshare estimates its financial impact from responding to COVID-19 to cost more than $30,000 per week.

About Foodshare

Foodshare is leading an informed, coordinated response to hunger in our community. Foodshare is the Feeding America food bank serving Connecticut’s Hartford and Tolland counties, where 118,000 people struggle with hunger. In partnership with the food industry, donors, community leaders and volunteers, Foodshare works to maximize access to nutritious food and other resources that support food security. Last year, Foodshare distributed more than 11 million meals worth of food to a network of 280 local food pantries, meal programs, and Mobile Foodshare sites. And, because it takes more than food to end hunger, Foodshare collaborates with anti-hunger organizations, policy makers, and the broader community to build effective solutions to end hunger.
