Foodshare Steps Up to the Plate for Annual Walk Against Hunger

Local organizations band together to strike out hunger at Dunkin’ Donuts Park

Bloomfield, CT

Foodshare, in partnership with The Hartford, is pleased to announce that the Foodshare Walk Against Hunger will be stepping off at Hartford’s Dunkin’ Donuts Park, home of the Hartford Yard Goats, for the first time. The venue change comes at a time of resurgence for the city of Hartford, with the stadium playing a large role. Given The Hartford’s founding sponsorship of Hartford Yard Goats, and its ongoing support of Foodshare, the alliance between the three organizations was a natural fit. The event, which raises funds to support Foodshare’s community programs and partners is now in its 35th year and will be held on Saturday, May 5th.

“Foodshare’s Walk Against Hunger is the largest event of its kind in Connecticut, and The Hartford has been our most steadfast partner. We both have great relationships with the Hartford Yard Goats and couldn’t be happier to be holding this year’s walk at Dunkin’ Donuts Park,” said Jason Jakubowski, president & CEO of Foodshare. This year marks The Hartford’s 25th anniversary as the presenting sponsor of the Foodshare Walk Against Hunger, a tremendous milestone for both organizations.

“We are proud of our long-standing partnership with Foodshare and excited about the new downtown event location,” said Diane Cantello, vice president of Corporate Sustainability, at The Hartford. “We believe that when we work with like-minded organizations and communities, together we can prevail in the fight against hunger.

The family friendly event will feature kids’ activities, entertainment and giveaways. Local media personalities Renee DiNino and Scot Haney will once again serve as emcees of the event.

“We are proud to support the Foodshare Walk Against Hunger and thrilled that the event will kick off at our home, Dunkin’ Donuts Park,” said Yard Goats President, Tim Restall. “Foodshare is one of our longtime partners and we are honored to play a small role in the great work that they do in the community. The Yard Goats are very much looking forward to this event on May 5th.”

The Foodshare Walk Against Hunger is the organization’s largest fundraiser and relies on donations and sponsorships to support Foodshare’s community programs and partners. Online registration will open in mid- February. For registration and sponsorship information visit Foodshare.org.
